January 2019 Advocacy Meeting

Please join us for the first Advocacy meeting of 2019 – Wednesday, January 16 at 12pm, at the MIRA office (4436 N. State Street, Ste. A-1, Jackson, MS). Lunch will be served as we continue preparation for Civic Engagement Day 2019.

In addition to getting ready for Civic Engagement Day, we will be working on our response to Trump’s outrageous border wall antics, as well as organizing volunteers to help provide food to hungry migrants traveling through Jackson.

Already two anti-immigrant bills have been introduced in the Legislative Session. The first is SB 2015, filed by by Sen. Angela Burkes Hill (R, Picayune) – which would allow for raiding employers of immigrants. The second, SB 2094, by Sen. Michael Watson (R, Pascagoula), would punish refugee resettlement organizations like Catholic Charities.

There will be more bills to come and we will discuss all of them in depth at the meeting. Prepare to fight back!
